Which way does a foot valve go?

Install foot check valve vertically with arrow pointed up in direction of liquid flow. The foot valve shall be installed a maximum of 25 feet vertical distance below the suction pipe of the pump inlet.

Can a water pump run without foot valve?

It is possible to use a water pump without a bottom valve, but doing so increases the risk to the system. The bottom valve is to prevent water from backing up in the piping, to keep the water pressure in the piping stable. It prevent air from entering the piping, thus ensuring the normal operation of the pump. If the water pump does not have a bottom valve, when the pump stops working, the water in the pipeline will flow backward, forming a water hammer phenomenon, which can cause damage to the pipeline and pump. In addition, the absence of a foot valve can also lead to the entry of air in the piping, affecting the normal operation of the system. Therefore, in order to ensure the safe and stable operation of the system, it is recommended to install a foot valve at the inlet of the chilled water pump.

How can you tell if your foot valve is bad?

    1.Foot valve cannot absorb water.
At this time, you can first check whether the water supply pipe is interrupted, blocked, such as confirming that there is no problem with the pipeline, you can disassemble the water inlet valve to check whether it is broken or clogged.
If foot valve is broken or clogged, it should be cleaned or replaced in time. When replacing, care should be taken to match the original size and specifications.
2.Foot valve suction is too slow.
This is generally due to the presence of large resistance in the water pipeline, you can clean up the pipeline or replace the pipeline with a larger diameter to solve the problem.
    3.Foot valve frequent switching.
If there is no abnormality in the water inlet pipe, check whether the interface between the pump body and the water inlet valve is well sealed, if there is leakage, it should be dealt with in time.
If foot valve opens and closes frequently, adjust the position of the foot valve or replace it with a new inlet foot valve to ensure that it is installed with a tight joint between the pump body.
Regular cleaning and maintenance of the intake foot valve can effectively prevent intake foot valve failure.
